Funding Requests

From time to time, Nokomis Foundation will send out Requests for Proposals specifically related to our focus areas of women's economic self-sufficiency as well as civic engagement. At this time, Nokomis Foundation is not accepting unsolicited proposals. If you have questions about the grantmaking process, please contact our Program Director, Anne Hagen, at ahagen@nokomisfoundation.org.

Current Grantmaking

The Nokomis Foundation through a grant awarded to the University of Michigan, School of Social Work, will convene a meeting of health policy experts and other informed stakeholders to develop a policy agenda for health care policy in the State of Michigan with particular reference to low-income families, impoverished women, and a special emphasis on women who are close to poverty. Based on a compilation of preliminary research, the project team will facilitate a symposium of selected health care policy experts, with experience and knowledge of Michigan, to chart a proposed policy agenda in the area of health care and health insurance. The event is aimed at producing a series of policy options with recommendations for implementation in the state of Michigan. The symposium, to be held in spring 2010, will be preceded by a planning and research synthesis phase, and followed by the production of a statement of the policy agenda and its rationale in a format appropriate for dissemination and advocacy work. The structural model developed through the health care convening will serve as a template for future convenings on other issues related to economic self-sufficiency.
