Nokomis Foundation believes every woman and girl should have the opportunity to shape her future by naming her hopes, aspirations and dreams. But too often, our voices are muted, suppressed, ignored. Through learning, funding, and sharing, Nokomis works to overcome the barriers silencing women and girls.
We focus on increasing the self-sufficiency and civic and political participation of women and girls. And you can join us in this work. Raise your voice. Name your dream.
When I was growing up...
When I was growing up, I had no voice. Later, as a teacher of young girls, I found myself urging them to speak up, express themselves, shout and sing. Sometimes I was successful; too often, I was not.
We can't live our dreams until we can name them. Despite decades of progress, too many women are still silent—victims of oppression, discrimination and their own fears.
Nokomis is about creating a world where women can sing. In helping them discover their voices, I am finding my own.
