Nokomis Update

NEW Nokomis Foundation VOICES listserv!

The Nokomis Foundation has just added a new listserv -- VOICES. This listserv provides a quick way for us to send out information related to Nokomis grantmaking, Nokomis events, and general items of interest to women and women-serving organizations. It will also serve as a forum for subscribers to ask questions and share information with like-minded peers.

Go Back to School Early This Year

Women and girls in the U.S. take September back-to-school days for granted, using the summer to recharge and plan. The situation is very different in Afghanistan, where girls cannot attend school at all. The anti-woman Taliban militia forbids female education, forcing many to flee to Pakistan, where educational opportunities are also extremely limited. Working with the U.S. State Department, the Feminist Majority Foundation has initiated a back-to-school campaign for girls in these two countries. You or your group can adopt a school, or help secure scholarships in the U.S. for college women. As little as $10 buys a blackboard, and $36 pays a teacher's salary for one month. This is a way to reach out to oppressed girls and give them some hope for the future. For information contact 703-522-2214 (phone), 703-522-2219 (fax), or visit the Feminist Majority Foundation.

Information provided by the Washington Feminist Faxnet. You can contact WFF at (202) 797-0606.
