Nokomis Foundation Appoints President/CEO
In announcing the appointment, Twink Frey, Nokomis Founder and Chair, stated, I am very pleased to announce that Mary Alice Williams will continue in a permanent role as the President and CEO of the Nokomis Foundation. I feel that she best understands my vision and goals for our work going forward. Mary Alice has my personal confidence and the knowledge of and passion for the work that needs to be accomplished.
Williams served as President and CEO of Arbor Circle, a West Michigan human service agency formed through a merger she helped to craft. Since her 2006 retirement from that position she has served in interim executive positions at a number of not-for-profit organizations.
Long affiliated with Nokomis as a former member of its Advisory Committee, Williams says that the Nokomis mission of creating a stronger voice for women and girls is a core value for her. She further indicated that she is excited about working with Founder Twink Frey and Program Director Anne Hagen to create opportunities for economic self-sufficiency for women who are low wage earners and lack access to health care coverage.
For the foreseeable future, Nokomis will be at the forefront of promoting sound health care policies for the women of Michigan, Williams indicated. We will use our resources strategically and partner with others to ensure that public policy addresses the health care burden of the 100,000 Michigan women who go to work everyday and continue to be one pay check away from disaster.
